Barry Kienzle

Newly published author, Barry Kienzle, needed a website and promotional materials to help promote his first book, The Crossings. The book was set in the 1930's and was based on the true story of the author's father hopping on a freight train in Kentucky at the age of 12, in order to see Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I designed and produced the website on wix.com so Barry could easily update his site as needed. I used a vintage railyard photo for the website background, and colors reminiscent of Mardi Gras to give viewers a feel for the book. Promotional graphics made references to trains which were an integral part of the story.

Two years after the publication of his first book, Barry had his second book, The Indian, published. This book featured the same main characters, now in their early 20's, as the U.S. was about to enter WWII. The adventure in this book was centered around one of the characters riding a vintage Indian motorcycle to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore. I updated the background photo and colors of the website to reflect this new book.

Promotional author flyers for media kit, leave-behinds and email

Promotional flyer promoting the author's appearance at a senior center. The piece was styled to look like a newspaper from the same time period as the book to get viewers' attention. I designed a similar non-event specific flyer which Barry mailed to libraries and other groups, which resulted in a few bookings.

Current, redesigned website specifically showcasing Barry's sequel, The Indian.
